With Confidence @ The Abbey

This trio from Australia proved that pop punk isn’t dead, it’s just moved down under. How they managed to maintain that energy and emotion across the world is beyond me, but they did. Passing through middle and high school when My Chemical Romance and Mayday Parade were shaking the youth, I felt like I was back in 2007, and I loved it.

Government Shutdown – Our Position

Today is day 34 of the U.S. partial government shutdown. Here is our position regarding the situation without addressing the silly politics.

There have been two other shutdowns in the most recent history of the CWA Dept. Both times, the IRS issued CWAs after the government reopened. However, this is the first time the CWA Dept. has been closed for this length of time.

We believe 100% of the CWA applications we have sent in to the IRS would have been approved and issued by the IRS.

We believe the IRS should retroactively honor those applications and allow the CWAs to be deemed as “in force.” The IRS could – and should – require stronger information at the end of the tours for those retroactive CWAs. There is no policy in the CWA Dept manual that prohibits retroactive CWAs in a situation like this.

We believe that if venues choose to withhold 30% – and we certainly hope they will not – the venues should NOT deposit those funds with the IRS. They should hold the funds until the IRS creates policy on the situation.

We hope the IRS will do the right thing and honor the CWAs with the artists/athletes/taxpayers. They have no reason to punish these artists/athletes/taxpayers. Additonally, they have no reason to punish the venues by requiring large amounts of paperwork that would be unnecessary if the CWAs were deemed “in force.”

Back to Milwaukee!

Milwaukee Wisconsin is one of my favorite cities in America.  I’d consider living there during a full summer.  Friendly?  I’ve not found folks that are friendlier.  This week was the Association of Irish and Celtic Festivals Conference.  Over 25 festivals with more than 140 delegates.  Great folks! Great friends!  Fortunately, there was plenty of caffeine served before I semi-regaled them with a short talk about new CWA policies.  Ed Ward talked me into doing a short bit of the Walt Disney World Jungle Cruise routine I did while working on the attraction during the 70’s.

Loverboy at The St. Augustine Amphitheatre

America’s oldest city on a very warm evening. This was our first trip to the St. Augustine Amphitheater – awesome facility. The opening act was Tommy Tutone. After the show, Jackie and I had a chance to talk with Tommy Heath – what a great guy. I was not aware that “867-5309” is one of the highest used computer passwords in the world. Tommy received a full standing ovation at the end of his show.
he Greg Kihn Band followed. First time we had seen him perform. Greg kept the crowd in a frenzy before our client hit the stage.   Greg’s voice is the same as it was in the 80s – super!  You knew it was him singing.

This might have been the first concert for the couple sitting behind us. The couple felt everyone should have been sitting communicating with each other via cell phone. They were a bit vocal about it during Tommy and Greg. When Loverboy hit the stage, they had no choice but to stand for the entire site.

As I type this, I am “Working for the Weekend.”

IrishFest!

Delia and Cecile are in Las Vegas for Psycho Las Vegas.  Although I really, really like Las Vegas, I love Milwaukee.  My phone was not doing well for pictures so I hope to download some from various websites.  We had a bunch of clients performing that wanted Central Withholding Agreements.

Psycho Las Vegas

Delia and Cecile traveled to Las Vegas, NV to visit our clients at the Psycho Las Vegas Festival.  We had a lot of fun meeting with our clients and watching them perform!

Dua Lipa at House of Blues, Orlando

We’ve been filing Dua Lipa’s CWAs for two years and we were very excited that she made a return trip to Orlando, FL after the last show was canceled.  Delia and Kim went out to see the show at House of Blues.  The venue was packed and the show was amazing!

Betsayda Machado In Orlando

Last evening Jackie and I had the opportunity to see our CWA client at the Orlando Timucua Arts Foundation house. This is the best intimate venue we have ever been in. That allowed the artists to interact with the guests off the stage and on the floor. There was some spectacular dancing going on starting about the 4th song and that lasted the rest of the set.
