Tegan and Sara Visit Orlando!

Last night, Jackie and I had a rare opportunity to see one of our clients perform.  The iconic Plaza Theater was packed, and the crowd was amazing.  Before the show, we talked with both Tegan and Sara backstage and got a little “Closer”

Business As Usual…

government-closed-485x364Although the US Government is in a temporary shutdown, CWA Management is still processing CWAs for our customers.
We believe our Congress will solve the situation very soon, and the government will be back to normal – whatever normal may be…

The Duhks

Last night we had a rare opportunity to take time to see one of our customers perform.
The Duhks, a Canadian folk  music group, appeared at “Concert Under the Stars” at Bok Tower in Lake Wales, Florida. This is a wonderful outdoor special event. Folks bring their own lawn chairs, picnic dinners, wine, beer, etc., and enjoy a night of great music. The Duhks put on a fabulous show with their unique blend of Canadian soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old time country string band, zydeco, and Irish dance music, for the couple of thousand people in attendance. After spending hours of time number crunching  and negotiating with the IRS for our artists in the office and in travel, it’s absolutely wonderful to actually see the talent behind those endeavors we were contracted for. Great show Duhks!

…but no Leprechauns…

I just returned home from Muskegon Michigan. I had the opportunity to attend the North American Irish & Celtic Festival Organizers Conference 2013.    It was a wonderful event, with over 80 attendees from over 25 festivals.  Thanks to Chris Zahrt, President of the Michigan Irish Music Festival and her great team for hosting this event. And thanks to Ed Ward from the Milwaukee Irish Fest for insisting I not miss this.

IRS sets five specific furlough dates

Here’s an interesting article in the Washington Post about the IRS furloughing employees beginning in May.

Acting IRS Commissioner Steven T. Miller said in a memo to agency employees that furloughs would take place on May 24, June 14, July 5, July 22 and August 30, with all “public-facing operations” closing on those dates, including toll-free operations and taxpayer-assistance centers.

I don’t think this will hurt us, but it’s best you keep in contact and up to date with us just in case.

Welcome Karen!

With great pleasure we are pleased to announce an addition to the CWA Management team, Karen Villa. Karen has worked for the IRS since 1988; first as a Taxpayer Representative for Businesses, and then as an IRS Specialist, focusing on International Taxation. During her tenure with the IRS, she also became a member of the Tax Education and Communication (TEC) staff, and finally, from 2006 to 2012, she worked full time in the IRS Central Withholding Agreement Program. You can find more details about her impressive career on our About Us page. Just like when Cecile joined us in January, I feel the addition of Karen, yet another ex IRS employee who specialized in the IRS Central Withholding Agreement Program, will continue to keep us the Global Leaders in executing CWA’s for any and all foreign artists and athletes who are working in the United States. Not only is Karen now a valuable company asset, she is yet another reason why CWA Management should be your first and only choice in implementing your Central Withholding Agreement. Welcome aboard Karen!

CWA101: Surviving Foreign Artist Tax Withholding

The panel discussion about Central Withholding Agreements was a tremendous success.
Our host was James Burke, NYC City Parks Foundation/Summerstage Arts & Cultural Programs Director.
Along with Cecile and me, on the panel was Mel Puljic of Folklore Produtions and Mehmet Dede of Drom and Electric Lila.
Matthew Covey, owner of Tamizdat Artist Services did a spectacular job of moderating the panel and keeping the discussion lively.
Cecile was the main focus as she was able to share a tremendous amount of knowledge after her retirement from the IRS only 3 weeks ago.
There was standing room only, and folks filled the hallways for another 30 minutes after the time ended.

Hello New York City…

Cecile and I will be flying to NYC today, where we will be attending the APAP Conference this weekend. We will also be speaking early Friday at a conference put on by New York Summerstage. It would be nice to take in some of the sites of NYC, but with over 3500 attendees expected at APAP, we are going to be busy, busy, busy. We hope to see some old faces and meet many new ones. With so many talented, foreign artists, this will be an exciting and productive trip. If you are attending, we hope to see you there. Look us up if you have any questions about what a Central Withholding Agreement is, why you need one, and how we can help you with this important document.
