2015 Recap

I was asked last evening what was my favorite event of 2015.
Last year, I had the opportunity to see quite a few of our clients perform – lots of special moments that could be considered favorites, as you can see if you scroll down the blog history of these pages.
Picking only one is not fair, but alas, life is not fair.
So as I open the envelope of my memory containing the decision, I see that getting to meet legendary drummer, Ginger Baker in New York City is the winner.

Congrats Europe!

I’d like to give a big congratulation to our client Europe for the success they had in 2015. If you haven’t seen it yet, here is the official video of their hit “Days of Rock ‘n’ Roll” from their latest album “War of Kings”.  They are hot, hot, hot right now!

However, if releasing a new album and selling out concerts wasn’t enough, they are also climbing the CLIO charts with their fun and funny GEICO Insurance commercial.

Great year guys!

RIP Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister

We would like to pass on our condolences to the family and friends of our client Motörhead’s lead singer, Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister. With the internet and social media awash with stories and tributes of this Heavy Metal rocker after his sudden passing, we also would like to honor his memory for our readers with a video of one of his biggest hits, “Ace of Spades”.  Thank you Lemmy.

Smile

Our client The Jive Aces have just released a new music video, “Smile”. It is from their latest album “Spread a Little Happiness”, and is inspired by the Charlie Chaplin classic of the same name. After watching it I dare anybody to not feel warm and happy inside, and of course, have it bring a smile to your face too! Enjoy.

Cecile at ADE

Cecile Glunt, our Director of Government Relations, is attending the Amsterdam Dance Event this week.
This is a five-day electronic music conference with over 2,200 artists attending.
Cecile participated in a session involving taxation from multiple countries.
She specifically talked about Central Withholding Agreements.

Below is Cecile with Mary Croghan, CFO of Liaison Artists of San Francisco:

We don’t know if Cecile signed up to be in any dance contests.
If anyone finds out, please let us know how she does.

Ricardo Arjona in Orlando

Last night Jackie and I had the opportunity to see our client, Ricardo Arjona. perform at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando.
This is the same building where the Orlando Magic play and the house was packed.
His set was very unique as it was two levels and he sang from both levels for almost two hours.
What was absolutely fascinating – every woman in the place knew the words to every one of his songs.

WAA

Jackie and I just returned from the Western Arts Alliance 2015 Conference. This was our first time to Vancouver in many, many years. SPECTACULAR city! The conference was much larger this year than in the past. Dan Smythe from the IRS gave an excellent talk on Central Withholding Agreements.

ConCert

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Consortium of Eastern Regional Theaters.
The two-day event was held at the historic Thayer Hotel at West Point. This was my first visit to The United States Military Academy. There were a lot of very large people walking,  jogging or running around wearing fatigues. I heard a lot of people say “Yes sir!” or “Yes ma’am!” I found myself quickly saying that also.

Brit Floyd

Last night, Jackie and I went to House of Blues at Disney Springs to see our client, Brit Floyd.
This tribute production is one of the best shows we have ever seen.
Quite simply, if you are a Pink Floyd fan, this is an absolute must see.
If you are not a Pink Floyd fan – but love music from that era, you should strongly consider it.
The show is that good and you will be glad you went.

GINGER BAKER AT BB KINGS IN NYC!

Jackie and I had the opportunity to be in NYC and see our client, legendary drummer Ginger Baker perform. The show is called Ginger Baker’s Jazz Confusion. The lineup includes Pee Wee Ellis on sax, bassist Alec Dankworth and percussionist Abass Dodoo. The house was standing room only and the crowd left thrilled. Prior to the show, Ginger and I almost talked about taxes. You can see how excited he was. He said something to the effect that I was a “sure cure for insomnia.”
